Second trip to the bank

I don't think the Marathon is an adequate metaphor for adoption. The Marathon is linear. You prepare, you run the course, you move from the beginning to the end.

Adoption is more like a labyrinth. You prepare, but you encounter obstacles, road-blocks. You retrace your steps, you keep moving . . . you find your way to the center, your goal, and then back again. You make choices, no doubt about it, but there's only one path to follow.

Spent a lovely, child-free conversation-filled, evening with my friend Anne. Talking with her, I realized how long ago I chose to start this journey.

Such deep thoughts . . . certainly appropriate when embarking on an amazing voyage to a new daughter!

On a lighter note, my workplace buddies had a very nice muffin party for me today. I was very surprised! It was fun, and Cheryl, Regina, Elbert, Kevo, Jonathan, and "the children": thanks so much--and look for my postcard!
Good night!

Maureen,

As I read your entry, I realize how frequently I too think of the start of my journey to my two girls from China. Building a family, any way you do it, is special. And it is easy to see in your three children today, and the fourth soon to join.

This trip you will travel without the physical presence of our "clan." But remember all the humor, support, and encouragement from my family and I am sure all of China 88 travel with you!

Wish we were going with you and can't wait to meet your next family member!
