Gail kindly sent me a link to this Times article which refers, amazingly, to both Potter and Pinter. Hope the link works, but if not, google The Hothouse Only Connect.
Anyway, the gist of it is that the times are filled with anxiety about who, if anyone, can be trusted. This rings particularly true to me with regards to politics, from the silly secret shenanigans of the workplace to international policy. For a hilarious exercise in the use of language to obfuscate, check out the youtube presidential debates (on youtube, of course) and play back responses to different questions simultaneously. It is funny, or would be, if it didn't serve as a metaphor for an unfunny reality.
Speaking of Harry (Potter), I haven't finished the book yet!!!!! Absolutely must finish by Monday! Till then, don't tell me!!!!!
Note photo of Libby as Harry above. I am reading the series to the girls one chapter at a time, so I get to enjoy it all over again.
