Visting Audrey

I usually visit Audrey every 2 weeks, often combining the trip to Somerset with a horseback riding lesson for Libby in Westport. Today we had no lesson, so it would be a short trip, so I invited Kit to come along.
Audrey was so happy to see Kit!!!! She tried to give Kit her teddy bear, and with great effort she raised Kit's hand to her lips and kissed it. She said "I love you" to her.
So I wonder . . . we assume Alzheimer's patients don't know us, and don't understand us, and don't remember us . . . but maybe they do. Maybe they are unable to articulate, but inside maybe they are able to remember, and to love.
