Finally it is wintry enough to make Leilei want to wear a coat, hat, mittens. Being from a tropical place, she hasn't been able to grasp the concept of skin-searing, bone-numbing COLD. "I freezin" she mutters as we trudge towards school. Or, when it is twenty degrees or worse, "I FREEZIN! bundle me up!"
Sometimes I'm amazed at what enormous changes Leilei has experienced over the past year, and with what aplomb she has managed them. There's no winter in Behai. Libby and I tried to prepare her, regaling her with stories of sledding, skating, hot cocoa, and snowmen. So far only the cocoa has come to pass . . . but Leilei has really gotten into the concept of snowmen. She is very skilled at drawing them, and can't wait for enough snow to actually make one!
Marvelously, my friend Mary has presented Leilei with a truly marvelous memento of her first winter--one of her illustrations from her book Now It is Winter. It shows a family of mice, a mother and little one at the top of a hill, looking down at other mice kids building a snow mouse! Perfect for my Behai Baby. Alas, the art is far more beautiful than anything in my house, so I may have to redecorate around it. Stay tuned for home renovation details--well, room renovation, anyway.
